They are also a senior negotiator.

Builds links with women’s sector organisations, makes resources accessible to all women in the branch, a focal point for women’s issues for members and raising issues affecting women, supporting women.

Labour Link Officer, Yousaf Hassan Yousaf.hassan@walthamforest.gov.uk

Key contact point for information about regional and national UNISON Labour Link matters and is responsible for co-ordinating activities in the branch.

 

Publicity Officer, vacant

Explains UNISON’s policies and provides information members need to play an active role in their union, produces news-sheets, bulletins or digital communication for distribution to branch members, monitors and liaises with local media.

Pensions Officer, Sandra Bennett Sandra.bennett@walthamforest.gov.uk

As the Pension Rep for the Branch, she cannot give financial advice but can provide information about pension entitlement and options and, where necessary, signpost members where they can get further help and assistance. She also sits on the Council’s Pension Board which oversees best practice and standards in relation to how the Local Government Pension Scheme is managed.

Works on equal rights issues including sex, race, disability, and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues.

 

Young Members’ Officer, vacant

Recruits new members, makes sure issues of concern to young workers are raised through the branch; acts as a focal point for young members and receives/distributes information.

Works for disability equality in UNISON, bargaining for workplace reasonable adjustments, disability campaigning and organising

Branch Education Co-ordinator

Helps arrange training courses and education programmes for members, stewards, health and safety reps and branch officers.

Branch Welfare Officer

Makes sure that members seeking welfare assistance receive a prompt, supportive and effective response.

 

 
Environmental Officer

Co-ordinates the union’s green and environmental agenda in the branch.

 

 
LGBTQ+ Officer

Recruits LGBTQ+ workers into the union; encourages LGBTQ+ members to get involved; supports individual members; identifies and challenges discrimination; defends and promotes LGBTQ+ public services; campaigns for equality.

 
Retired Members’ Officer

The retired members’ officer enables retired members of the branch to continue to be active in the union through the branch’s retired members’ section.

Black Members’ Officer

Campaigns for equality in the workplace and the wider community and challenges racism and discrimination in the workplace.
